Mauro Frank Capone born October 5th 1929 in San Francisco, passed away in Placerville May 17th 2012. Mauro was a graduate of Balboa high School, San Francisco, 1948. He was the loving husband of Lenora Capone who preceded him in death in 2001. Before his move to South Lake Tahoe he enjoyed 23 years as a route supervisor for Sun Valley Dairy .
“Al” as he was locally known to his friends and customers owned and operated Scotty’s Hardware from 1973 until Mauro and Lenora retired to Placerville in 1997. Mauro “Al” Capone loved tinkering in his garage on many projects, especially old cars and Ham radios. He loved the mountains, the bears, the raccoons and squirrels that visited his home for years in Montgomery Estates. Later when he retired to live in Placerville he enjoyed watching the deer that frequented the peaceful gardens of his home. He “survived” the winter of 1982, the floods, the fires, the road closures and the ups and downs of the local economy. He lived through it all. He remembers his friends and customers at Scotty’s and loved standing at the counters and having wonderful conversations with them all.
Most of all he received much enjoyment from being involved in the community.
He was a member of many local organizations, including, president South Tahoe Rotary, 1989-1990 and receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award. President of Chamber of Commerce, 1982-1983; Commodore South Tahoe Yacht Club 1980-1982. Founding member of TARA (Tahoe Amateur Radio Association) where he will always be remembered as WA6SIM and last but not least Director El Dorado Fire Protection District 1999-2000.
