Charles Randolph Petrey Obituary (1937

Chuck passed away peacefully Thursday, October 15, 2015. He was born in San Jose, CA on February 8, 1937 to Charles Randolph Petrey and Venice Carolyn Hill. Carolyn and Charles separated and Carolyn then met a young naval aviator Don McFarland Doughty and married. In 1940, the newly married couple and their son Chuck moved to Upland, CA. The family grew larger with the addition of his brother Mike and sister Barbara. The kids proudly watched their father fight fires as an air tanker pilot, but were unexpectedly saddened when he crashed fighting a fire. Shortly after graduation from high school, Chuck enlisted in the Army and spent 2 years in Germany. After leaving the Army in late 1957, he enrolled in Chaffey College and met his first wife Judith Ann Alton. Chuck and Judy were blessed with 4 children: Stephen, Keith, Cynthia and Linda. He began work for General Dynamics/Convair in 1961, but left in 1964 to join the Dept. of Corrections which would become his lifelong career. During these early years with the CDC, Chuck was just as busy at home coaching Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball as well as serving as president of the local Little League. Chuck worked hard and received many promotions eventually moving his family to Cameron Park, CA. After 30 years of service, Chuck retired as the Chief of the Statewide Transportation Unit. Chuck married his wife Irma Nava in 2003 and began another enjoyable chapter of his life. Chuck and Irma loved to cruise and spent countless days out on the ocean. Chuck was an avid sports fan, especially football. He spent his later years watching countless hours of sports and grainy re-runs of Sherlock Holmes and other classics. Besides his brother and sister, Chuck is survived by his devoted wife Irma, his four children, thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held on October 19, 2015.
