December 22, 1940 - January 8, 2021
Mary Louise Gold was born on December 22nd, 1940 in Springfield, Missouri to mother Zella Mae Roush and birth father Clifford Alvin Nixon. In Folsom, California on January 8th, 2021, Mary passed away knowing she was cherished by so many, after a brave battle with Covid-19. She gave life to 5 children; Albert, Cathy, Antonio (Tony), Allen, and Chris Gold as well as 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild that will grow into a vast network of descendants. Mary was the matriarch of a large family, who was always there for us all to lean on or have a laugh with. She spent her 80 years on this earth as a country music enthusiast, singer, gardener, painter, baker, crochet artist, animal lover and comedienne as well as being a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was rebellious, sassy, loving and fun. Mary resided in towns across California throughout her life such as Galt, Keyes, Stockton, Rio Linda and Carmichael. Mary eventually settled in Cameron Park to be near her family. She was present and involved in everyone's events and accomplishments, always behind the camera whether it be on her shoulder or in her hands, and with hours upon hours of video tape or photo documentation. She spent time creating cherished crocheted blankets for each of us, and had a tradition of decorating gingerbread houses with her many grandchildren each Christmas. Over the decades, she baked and decorated detailed cakes for many weddings and birthdays. Mary could often be found listening to music on her record player, singing or doing a little dance. Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and Bob Seger were some of her regular go-to's. We find it incredibly fitting that she passed on the birthday of her all time favorite, Elvis Presley. Elvis's commemorative plates, mugs, and dolls adorned her homes throughout her life. To all that she left behind, including her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and her sister Carol Starr, she was a true blessing and inspiration. She will be incredibly missed. Though the pain of her passing is overwhelming, Mary inspires us all to live with resiliency, light, and love despite life's many challenges. Mary's wishes were to have her ashes spread at sea.
