Robert Franklin Murray, Jr.
June 12, 1962 – March 23, 2026
Robert Franklin Murray, Jr., known to those who loved him as Bob, passed away on March 23, 2026, in El Dorado Hills, California at the age of 63.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family. He was a loving and faithful husband to Tonya, happily together for 23 years. He was a proud father to Sean and Jade, whom he raised alongside his first wife Julie until her untimely passing, and a steadfast rock to Tonya's daughters, Courtnee and Rebekka, whom he embraced as his own. He was a beloved brother to his sister Robin and a cherished father-in-law to Adam and Kyle. He was a joyful and deeply loved "Boppy" to his grandchildren, Silas, Kemper, and Harvey, and treasured every moment spent with them. He was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of a new grandchild, due in October, to parents Jade and Adam.
Born in Grass Valley, CA, Bob grew up in Auburn, CA, earning the rank of Eagle Scout, playing football, and multiple instruments in the school bands. After graduating from Placer High School, he attended Long Beach State University, where he earned his BA in Radio and Television. It was there that he fell in love with rowing, a sport that awakened a lifelong devotion to physical challenge, movement, and the outdoors.
Bob built a life marked by energy, curiosity, and connection. He spent the majority of his adult life in Northern California, specifically 29 years in El Dorado Hills, where he invested deeply in both his work and his community. As the founder and owner of Trapeze, a boutique media and production company specializing in creation and editing, Bob built something truly special, growing it alongside his wife Tonya and a small, loyal team whose dedication and talent he was enormously proud of. He led with creativity, excellence, and innovation, and was deeply respected and loved by his clients, peers, and the entire Trapeze family.
Bob had a deep love for sports and was a loyal fan of the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and Sacramento Kings. He was an avid runner and cyclist, dedicating several years to Team in Training, logging thousands of miles on the bike and completing countless running races, from the Turkey Trot to marathons. He was happiest on a trail through the foothills, joined by Tonya and their beloved dogs, Buster and Lucky. He also had a well-known sweet tooth and incredible baking skills, and especially enjoyed sharing a box of Lucky Charms with his grandsons.
He was thoughtful and generous. If he heard someone mention something they needed or wanted, it would often appear at their doorstep, or materialize in hand from his last trip to the store, a quiet and characteristic way of showing love to everyone around him.
More than anything, he will be remembered for his warmth, his steady presence, and the way he freely offered a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. Bob was, in the truest sense, a rare and good man. The lives he touched are immeasurably changed for having known him, and we are heartbroken that he left us far too soon.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bud (Robert Franklin Murray Sr.) and Roberta, and his first wife Julie, whose memory he carried with him.
A celebration of life service will be held in the coming months. Details will be shared and updated on this website.
