Rescue, California

Diane Foster, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, April 6, 2026. She was a graduate of Creswell High School class of 1958 in Creswell, Oregon. She met husband John when both attended the University of Oregon Music School fall term 1958. They were married June 11, 1960. Diane continued on to receive her Bachelor's and Master's degrees as well as an Advanced Certificate in Saxophone Performance from Sacramento State University. Her studies included classical, theater, and jazz organ and of course the saxophone. She also studied the hammered dulcimer, the santoor, the recorder and had a collection of various flutes. Diane was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her and her daughter's clothes. She also enjoyed water skiing and roller skating with husband, John.

Diane performed professionally with various music groups, and bands. Including with husband, John, a long-time membership in Metro Swing Band. (15-piece jazz band)

Diane served as music director and/or organist at various local churches for nearly 50 years. She loved sharing and teaching privately with young and old and teaching music in multiple private schools. Diane's passion for teaching included a heartfelt need to contribute to improving life's experience even beyond music. She started a personal development school seeking to assist students in achieving a more positive personal appearance, behavior and outlook on life. In addition to private students, Diane developed a program tailored to the young girls incarcerated at the Thornton Youth Center. Diane would go to the Center and teach the girls on a weekly schedule. In appreciation for Diane's efforts, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted to honor Diane as the Outstanding Volunteer of the year 1990.

Diane is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Foster; daughter, Michele Costello; son-in-law, Dean Costello; grandson, Joel Costello; granddaughter, Hannah Costello; sister, Cheryl Swenston; and brother-in-law, Ralph Swenston.
