James Edward Kern, Jr. (Jim) of El Dorado Hills, CA passed away peacefully in his sleep after a short battle with cancer at age 70 on January 30, 2020. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Susan, and their daughter Jennifer Weiss (Jason). In addition he is survived by his beloved grandchildren Jacob and Juliette Weiss, and Jackson and Ellie Kern (and their mother Jessica). He is also survived by his three siblings; Bonnie White, Bruce Kern and Jeffrey Kern. Tragically, his son Todd, at age 38, predeceased him by just weeks. Professionally, Jim was a custom home builder who loved creating unique and beautiful homes for his clients and his own family. Jim & Susan built 6 custom homes together for their family in Cincinnati, Ohio and Ponte Vedra, FL before relocating to California in 2003 to be closer to their daughter and her family. Over the years, Jim had various hobbies from golf to gardening but in the last few years spent most of his time palling about with his grandson Jackson. He also volunteered to make his community stronger, particularly enjoying his time on the Grand Jury and in various Homeowner's Association roles. What Jim is best remembered for is his intellect and a wicked sense of humor. He had little interest in 'political correctness' and was always finding the humor in every situation. He very rarely encountered a subject he would not lighten up with his quick wit, a gift in the end. His family extends their sincerest appreciation to the friends and family that provided love and support during this time. A Celebration of Life is planned for April. In lieu of flowers, please spend extra time with those you love or make a donation to a cause that you care about.
