Valerie Smith

Valerie Ann Smith BSN, RN, PHN, 77, of Placerville, CA, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026. She was born on March 1, 1949, in Winters, CA, to Donald Allen Frisbee and Betty Jean Frisbee. She attended elementary school in Winters, CA; high school in Darmstadt, Germany, and Dayton, OH; and is a graduate of California State University Sacramento’s nursing program.

Valerie dedicated her professional life to others, spending her rewarding career of 42 years as a Registered Nurse at American River Hospital, Kaiser Hospital, and Kaiser Home Health. Outside of her profession, she was the true nurturing heart of her family and was known by all for her immense warmth and quiet strength. She had a deep passion for traveling, working in her garden, and curling up with a good mystery novel. An exceptional cook, Valerie poured love into everything she made, a passion for food that she joyfully shared with others. Her family will forever cherish her legendary spaghetti, homemade cookies, and the beloved tradition of hosting delicious holiday meals.

Valerie is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Calvin (Jim) Smith; her son, Daniel Smith; her grandson, Graham Smith; and her sisters, Robyn Fleming and Maryann Frisbee. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Debby.

A celebration of her life will be held at Green Valley Mortuary & Cemetery (3004 Alexandrite Dr, Rescue, CA 95672) on July 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to public television station PBS KVIE Channel 6.
